Change Begins Within
Knowing when it’s time to change, the process of change, and growing through change. [#StyleDiaries]
A few weeks ago, I was feeling a little blah about life. Well, now that I’m thinking about it, maybe more so about my daily routine. I’ve been living “said” routine for the past decade 🫠. In my opinion, that’s a little too long to be living the same way. Day in and day out, I’d wake up, have coffee, workout, eat breakfast, get ready, do some work, work on auditions (if I had any that day), have lunch, work some more, eat dinner, paint (sometimes), watch Netflix, go to sleep, and repeat. I believe part of the reason for me staying in this routine for so long was rooted in comfort and fear. But, as I mature, I’m becoming more aware of how important it is for me to live the life I desire. Meaning I’m well overdue for a change. That blah feeling really did come out of nowhere. The week before, I was getting things done and feeling really productive. I pushed myself out of my usual routine and tried a new way of operating. It felt amazing to change things up. However, when the following week came, I was looking for the same momentum, but it was nowhere to be found.
I made an external change with the expectation of it influencing my mind to grasp a new way of living. My mind said, “Hold up— you are making too many changes up in here. We are comfortable with how things are.” That explains why the momentum to upkeep my new routine didn’t last long. Change begins within. I talked about this briefly in my last post. While external change can lead to a major internal shift in some cases, I’m learning that my process flows better when I work internally first, which leads to an external change. Changing from within takes every ounce of patience because you’re making a huge adjustment to how you think, which is tied to who you become. It almost feels like an out-of-body experience, and in some way, it is. I’ve felt very foreign in my body since I have been willing myself to change. Half of me desired the change, and the other half was very comfortable. However, I recently realized that I no longer find comfort in the routine I’ve been in for ten years.
Being patient with others is already a task, but being patient with yourself is on another level, especially when you know what to do to overcome the hurdle. I can’t lie; sometimes I’m like, “LORD, can you expedite this process for me, please?😬” I want it to click instantly, but life and God don’t work that way. So, be prepared to take baby steps. Life is one big process that requires us to change while somehow enjoying the journey along the way. Foundational work takes time and prepares us for growth. I’m excited to see how I grow from making a change. I believe that change aligns us with the next level in our life as long as we stay available to be directed by God. It’s not easy, but it’s SO worth it.
Everyone’s process to change will be different. Please don’t compare your journey with someone else’s because no one is fulfilling the same purpose as you. Start to embrace your life’s journey and the timeline God has for you. All changes in life are building you to become the person you are meant to be. Anytime you feel blah (like I did), take a moment, look within, and see what changes are calling you. As you make changes within, remember to be purposely you.
